from 1 November to 13 November 2014

You can get to know the inventions of Jozef Murgaš, the pioneer of wireless telegraph, native of Tajov village, author of 12 patents in the field of telegraphy, on one of the first side-events of this year’s ‘Week of Science and Technology 2014’. The exhibition ‘Wireless world’ is taking place from Saturday 1 November to 13 November 2014 in Bratislava’s AVION shopping center.

The exhibition is held on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Jozef Murgaš, the pioneer of wireless telegraphy.
It should show the history of wireless telegraphy and radio in the international context to the general public and especially young people, their development from the first half of the 19th century and at the same time introduce the pioneers, such as distinguished scientists and researchers: Faraday, Maxwell, Hertz, Branly, Lodge, Popov, Tesla, Marconi, Murgaš or Fessenden.

Young people and students of primary and secondary schools, who are interested, can thus learn that the Wireless World is not only ancient inventions, but also a variety of communication services, including for example, the Internet, mobile communication or convergence of voice and data. Their development began over 100 years ago and several researchers, scientists and inventors were involved.

The exhibition includes posters, models of the inventions and an interactive digital panel on which the visitors can watch the videos, pictures, texts or participate in an interactive competition.

The exhibition of the work and creations of Jozef Murgaš is only one of the first events, which will be possible to visit to the general public as well as experts within the ‘Week of Science and Technology 2014’. It already starts on 10 November 2014 and throughout the week (until 16 November) will be possible to visit the events, discuss science and technology or to get to know their secrets and nooks not only in Bratislava, but within the whole Slovakia.

The event is taking place in the framework of the implementation of the national project ‘Popularization of Science and Technology in Slovakia’. The exhibit is organized by the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information – National Centre for the Popularization of Science and Technology in Society (SCSTI – NCP S&T), the Club of  Jozef Murgaš Enthusiasts and of Gregor Tajovský Enthusiasts. The sponsor of the event is the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports of the Slovak Republic.
